Congratulations to the varsity boys basketball team on their 58-32 victory over Kalamazoo Christian. The Panthers were dominant in the second half led by their defense outsourcing the Comets 34-10 after halftime. Tony Williams scored his 1000th point with three minutes remaining in the game becoming the first Panther to do so since Kendyl Hinton in 2014 and the first boys basketball player to reach this milestone since Alex Wolf did it in 2006. Both varsity basketball teams travel to Delton Kellogg on Friday starting at 6:00 p.m.

Dear Parchment Families, Parchment High School is proud to be partnering with OK2SAY, a confidential student safety tip line through the state of Michigan. OK2SAY focuses on early intervention and prevention through awareness and education and is a critical way for Parchment staff to receive crucial information to be able to act in the health and safety of our students. Who can submit a tip on OK2SAY? ANYONE! Students, teachers, parents, or community can submit a tip. What should be reported? Anything that would jeopardize the health and safety of a particular student, or the student body as a whole (examples- threats of violence, suicide threats, hate crime, weapons possession, human trafficking, etc). How are reports made? Text: 652729 (OK2SAY) Website: ok2say.com Email: ok2say@mi.gov Phone: 855-565-2729 What happens after a tip is submitted? Trained OK2SAY technicians will get in contact with the proper authorities, whether it is during school hours or outside of school hours, and act accordingly in collaboration with school officials and police. If you have questions about the OK2SAY system please feel free to contact the high school directly.

Therapy Dog at School! Parchment High School is excited to welcome Duncan, a certified therapy dog! There are many benefits from interacting with a therapy dog. At school these benefits include: increased academic skills, reduced stress and anxiety, and relationship building with staff and peers. Teachers may use time with Duncan as a class or individual reward. They may also ask Duncan to walk around the classroom during an assessment to decrease agitation. Counselors can use him as a way to calm an upset student. Duncan also serves as a buddy to read to or a morning greeter. Duncan is a black Labrador Retriever. He works with Mrs. Jansen, a high school math teacher. Duncan has earned a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate and a CGC-Advanced certificate. He has taken classes on school-based interventions and has a therapy certification through Service Dog Certifications. Duncan is shy when he first gets to know you, but warms up quickly! Of course, he loves tennis balls and treats. Duncan is a master at shaking paws and is learning how to high-five. He is so excited to join the PHS family!

Fall Conferences - We ran our fall conferences last week. We had a hybrid model, offering both phone and face to face conferences. We were relatively busy in both formats and will continue offering both formats moving forward for the remainder of the year. If you missed conferences, please don't hesitate to call or email your student's teachers. Special THANK YOU to parents for the great meal they provided!

Ms. Looper's English IIB students are reading the novel A Separate Peace, about sixteen year olds attending a prep school during WWII. The students presented aspects of a time capsule to learn about what was going on in the world during the 1940's. This student presented his part on the fashion of the 40's.

The College Success Students learned about Learning Styles. The students took the inventory and then were grouped according to their learning styles to teach the Multiple Intelligences, using their strengths. The Bodily-Kinesthetic group created a scavenger hunt that had different stations to demonstrate Howard Gardner's 9 Multiple Intelligences.

For the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Ms. Looper's English I students wrote about what their parents and classmates would understand if they walked in their shoes. Students do a gallery walk to look at classmates' shoes. Students found out about the struggles their peers face on a day-to-day basis, especially during a pandemic.
