Last week, PHS celebrated College & Career Week! Each year we use this week to promote college and career awareness and exploration to all grades.
Interested students traveled to KVCC to see their Skilled Trades programs, to the WMU School of Medicine, and to Kalamazoo College for interactive campus tours. We also welcomed career speakers each day during PASS in the areas of nursing, military/ROTC, psychology, skilled trades/apprenticeships, and even a tattoo artist!
Teachers spent time discussing their own career paths with students, as well as career opportunities within their subject areas. Our school counselors ran daily fight song trivia, career spotlight videos, and college apparel drawings for prizes!

Shall Parchment School District, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, borrow the sum of not to exceed Thirty-Six Million Four Hundred Thousand Dollars ($36,400,000) and issue its general obligation unlimited tax bonds therefor, in one or more series, for the purpose of: remodeling, furnishing and refurnishing, and equipping and re-equipping school buildings, including for school security improvements; acquiring, installing, equipping and re-equipping school buildings for instructional technology; and developing and improving sites?
The following is for informational purposes only:
The estimated millage that will be levied for the proposed bonds in 2025, under current law, is 2.95 mills ($2.95 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation). The maximum number of years the bonds of any series may be outstanding, exclusive of any refunding, is thirty (30) years. The estimated simple average annual millage anticipated to be required to retire this bond debt is 4.51 mills ($4.51 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation). The school district expects to borrow from the State School Bond Qualification and Loan Program to pay debt service on these bonds. The estimated total principal amount of that borrowing is $119,372 and the estimated total interest to be paid thereon is $2,831,915. The estimated duration of the millage levy associated with that borrowing is 16 years and the estimated computed millage rate for such levy is 9.96 mills. The estimated computed millage rate may change based on changes in certain circumstances.
The total amount of qualified bonds currently outstanding is $17,585,000. The total amount of qualified loans currently outstanding is approximately $9,121,362.
(Pursuant to State law, expenditure of bond proceeds must be audited and the proceeds cannot be used for repair or maintenance costs, teacher, administrator or employee salaries, or other operating expenses.)

We are accepting bids for Snow Removal Services.

A recent inspection at Central Elementary confirmed the need for system replacements. Over time, Parchment's hard water has caused corrosion, rotting equipment, and pump leaks in the old equipment. Our facilities plan allows for updated water filtration systems to be installed next summer to slow this process on any new equipment installed with potential bond funds.
We continue to repair and maintain our buildings, but the funds provided by the Nov2025 bond would allow us to replace corroded equipment and have consistent heating and a more predictable learning environment for our students.
