How are public schools funded in Michigan?
Michigan public schools receive annual operating funding from state and local sources largely for instruction, daily expenses, and other purposes. These funds generally cover day-to-day operations but are insufficient to cover both day-to-day operations and large-scale building projects like the 2026 bond proposal.
Without the funds provided by the 2026 bond proposal, the district couldn’t complete significant capital projects of this scale and operate at current levels.
Voters in the Parchment School District last approved a bond proposal in 2007.
Bond funds CANNOT be used for staff, teacher, or administrative salaries or other operational costs.
