Principal Phyllis Mion is this year's recipient of the Kalamazoo RESA Parent Advisory Committee Excellence in Special Education Award for Parchment School District.
This award honors those who have gone above and beyond their role in educating and supporting students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a 504 plan. A parent, guardian or family member of a student with a disability can nominate any staff member for this award. The PAC Committee then determines the winner(s) for each district in the county.
In addition to our winner we have four nominees who go above and beyond for our students:
-Leah Brower, Northwood and North Elementary Speech and Language Pathologist
-Kristin Klok, Northwood Elementary Early Childhood Special Education Teacher
-Alicia Waldron, Northwood Elementary Special Education Paraprofessional
-Lauren Kerssies, Central Elementary Special Education Teacher
Thank you for all you do for our students with special needs!

Calendar Reminder: Wednesday, May 14th is a half day for staff professional development!

Sincere thanks goes out to all of those who came out to vote yesterday and to all who supported our efforts throughout the Bond process! While we are disappointed in the outcome, we are anxious to hear thoughts and feedback about how we can address our needs in a way that is supported by our community at large.
The projects that we are able to fund with our Sinking Fund and Capital Projects Fund dollars (outlined in our District Facilities Plan) are still set to begin this summer. Those include:
- parking lot replacements
- water filtration system improvements
- fire and security panel upgrades
- energy and lighting upgrades to reduce district energy consumption and costs
Please look for opportunities in the next few weeks to provide feedback about the scope of the Bond work. While this particular scope of work did not meet with voter approval, the needs are still comprehensive, and we will look to find a more favorable plan to bring to our voters in the near future; the longer we wait, the more critical those needs will become, and the higher the cost will likely be.
We appreciate your continued support and collaboration in this process and look forward to hearing your feedback as we move forward!
Proud to be a Panther!
- Dr. Neumann
