Homecoming Events 10-11-2019
Posted: September 27, 2019
I am writing this letter today to provide clarification surrounding our upcoming homecoming activities in Parchment. Homecoming week runs from October 7-11. This is always a great week in our schools and community. Our aim is to continue these great traditions while balancing the recommendations from the health department pertaining to the EEE outbreak in our region. As you can understand, there are countless logistical factors that go into adjusting any event, let alone one as large as homecoming.
The decision has been made to cancel our homecoming parade due to the Friday night football game being moved to a 5:00 p.m. start. From a logistical standpoint, this does not allow enough time for a parade. Our last elementary does not dismiss until 3:50 p.m., thus creating a traffic problem with a parade route being blocked off in Parchment. (Not to mention several road closures due to construction.) We also feel that a half day of school, or an early release for a parade, would create an unnecessary burden on families to find child coverage on short notice. We also looked at moving the game and festivities to Saturday. However, several of our student organizations already have commitments this day which would prohibit them from participating in homecoming.
With this change, we do want to ensure that our students still have the best experience possible during this exciting week. Student council is meeting again today to ensure that our students still enjoy great activities throughout the week. The high school students will be receiving this information well before the week begins.
We all understand the value and importance of these type extra-curricular activities for our children and community. We are faced with circumstances that are out of our control and are trying to act in the best interest of our children and community. I have heard, and believe, that there are two things that you can control in life; your attitude and effort. So, what can we do to support our children and community during homecoming week (and always)? Come out and support our schools! Our students and staff want to see you at their events and engaged in their development.
In lieu of the parade on Friday, October 11, the Parchment Athletic Boosters are sponsoring a community tailgate directly next to the stadium. This event will begin at 4:00 p.m. Please join us in celebrating our schools and community at this event prior to the football game!
