Parchment Water Update

Thursday, August 2nd, 2018

Water distribution continues at Parchment High School. Scheduled distribution times are as follows:

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality will be in Parchment School District on Friday to assist and oversee the flushing of the water system in all affected buildings. When the system is fully on-line with Kalamazoo City Water, the DEQ will be testing the water in ALL of our affected buildings to ensure purity before we resume normal consumption. We will not begin using the water until the test results come back.

Next week, (the week of August 6) fall sports begin. The athletic department has made provisions for their practice schedules to ensure proper hydration for our student-athletes and staff. We have been gathering coolers to fill with outside water to bring in for practices. This is in an effort to cut down on the volume of plastic waste every day. Bottled water will be utilized as well.

We will continue to provide updates as we receive them. We are making provisions for both short and long-term solutions for our student returns this fall. With the swift response and collaboration of the governmental agencies, it is our belief that we will be back on-line with safe drinking water by the time students return to school and will continue to plan for returns under any circumstances.
