Dear Panther Family,
Winter certainly showed its true colors as we closed out January in true Michigan style! Moments like snow days remind us how interconnected we are as a school community. If you’ve ever wondered what goes into the decision to call a snow day, I invite you to read “The Anatomy of a Snow Day” in this issue—a behind-the-scenes look at how we work together to keep students safe while supporting families.
January also provided an opportunity to celebrate our Board of Education during School Board Appreciation Month. Strong communities are built on thoughtful leadership, and our board members exemplify this through their dedication, service, and willingness to listen. While the decisions they make are not always easy—or popular—they are rooted in what they believe is best for students and for the long-term health of our community. Their commitment to reflection, collaboration, and continuous improvement strengthens our district and helps ensure that community voice remains central to our work.
Community-building happens not only through leadership, but through everyday moments of connection. What do you love about our community? Great things are happening in Parchment every day, and your stories matter. Check out the link on our website to Share The Love! Whether it’s recognizing a staff member, a volunteer, or a simple moment that made you proud to be a Panther, sharing these experiences helps us stay connected. Be sure to check out the “Share The Love” article in this issue to learn how you can uplift others and support our schools through the Parchment Schools Foundation.
Recently, I read a reflection that encouraged me to pause—to feel gratitude not only for the place that shaped me, but for the life I am living now. Honoring the past matters, but appreciating the present—and the people who fill it—is essential. This sentiment has guided many meaningful conversations I’ve had over the past few months with students, families, and community members as they shared their hopes and aspirations for our district. Listening to these voices reminds me that our strength lies in our relationships and shared purpose.
As we continue to strengthen connections and shape our collective story, I would like to sincerely thank the members of our Strategic Planning Committee, Bond Steering Committee, and Parent Advisory Council. These groups reflect the power of community partnership. Their time, perspective, and willingness to engage in thoughtful dialogue help us address challenges with a solution-minded approach and envision what’s possible for our students and schools.
I feel incredibly fortunate to be raising my family in a community that values education and holds us to high standards. I am equally grateful to work alongside educators who are dedicated, collaborative, and open to growth as we create learning environments where every child feels supported and connected. Thank you for the trust you place in us, for your continued engagement, and for the role you play in strengthening our Panther community. It truly takes a village—and I am grateful to be part of yours.
With gratitude,
