What we do:

  • Life learning experiences through projects, activities, and field trips

  • We will be partnering with various groups and programs available throughout the Kalamazoo area including Sherman Lake, Growlers’ Baseball, Van Andel Institute, Fire Dept, Kalamazoo Nature Center, Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary, and Binder Park Zoo

When: Mon-Thurs from 7:45am - 11:15am for the weeks of June 28th, July 12th, July 19th and July 26th

Who: For students currently in grades K-11th

Registration: Is currently closed for summer 2021.

  • Free to all students

  • Transportation provided to and from Active Academy for students who live in district 

  • High school students must be up-to-date on all credits to attend

Will all ages be together?

  • No, students will be broken up by grade levels.

Where is Active Academy held?

  • Active Academy will be housed in schools within our district.  We will determine what building(s) will be used once we know how many students we will have participating.


Can students be bussed to and from Parchment Early Learning Center?

  • Yes

What will students be doing?

  • Each week students will complete lessons and activities related to the week’s theme led by teachers and support staff.  Each week we will also have guest speakers presenting in person and/or virtually.  Some weeks we will be going on field trips.

Some activities students will get to participate in:

  • Animals and Nature

    • Go to Kalamazoo Nature Center 

    • Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary will come and bring 6-8 reptiles for students to meet

  • STEM

    • Take a tour of Gilmore Car Museum 

    • Participate in a science experiment lead by scientist from The Van Andel Institute

  • Sherman Lake 

    • Go to Sherman Lake all four days and work on social and emotional skills

  • Health, Safety and Recreation 

    • Learn basic first aid from our school nurse

    • Northwood Fire Department will come and demonstrate fire safety

    • The Kalamazoo Growlers will come and lead a baseball skills camp
