NEWS

Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

Welcome to 2021. I wish I could say that the year is off to a great start. Unfortunately, we continue to experience life events that act to cause additional stress and anxiety for us all. I remember teaching a Sociology Class and my students and I watching the 911 situation unfold in front of our eyes. It was a scary time and students had many questions. This was similar to the events of last week in that students have many questions and there are no easy answers. Know that we talked to students last week and answered student questions to the best of our ability. We will continue to do this as long as they have questions. Please check in on your student at home as well as they were very anxious.

Updates to the Master Calendar for next week.

  • Martin Luther King Day 1/18/21: This is a professional development day with no students. The plan set last year was to develop service projects in honor of Martin Luther King.  On this day the plan was to have students and staff out in the community actually doing service. Unfortunately, this plan is not able to happen this year and we will move it to next year. This year 1/18/21 is still a no student day and the staff will be involved in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion training.
  • Virtual Parent Teacher Conferences 1/20–1/21: We added an extra half day for conferences. They are the same format as the fall. Conferences are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon from 12-3 and Thursday evening from 3:30-7:00. Students will have a half virtual day on Wednesday:

1st Block: 7:45-8:19                   4th Block: 9:39-10:13

2nd Block: 8:23-8:57                   5th Block: 10:17-10:50

3rd Block: 9:01-9:35                   CORE: 10:50-11:20

You must sign up for conferences to talk to your student’s teacher. Each teacher has 5 min blocks set up. Here is the link to sign up for conferences: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/phswinterconferences

  • NO SCHOOL 1/22: No students Friday. This is a scheduled day for the Staff.

*The District Calendar lists 1/28 as 6-12 Conferences. That is an error. It should read 6-8 Conferences.

As of today (1/11/21) winter sports and extra curriculars are set to start again on 1/16/21. If this happens, families that have athletes or students involved with Student Council/National Honor Society will receive information on the plan from their coach/advisor. We will communicate if there are further updates or changes from the MDDHS.

My thoughts and prayers are with you as we continue to work through these challenging times. Please let us know if we can help support you,

Sincerely,

 George Stamas - Principal
