NEWS

Dear PVA Parents/Guardians/Students,

Thank you for your continued patience and support as we start the 2020-21 school year! In these unusual times we face this year, together we are doing our very best for our students.  Here are some important reminders and information about our program.

1. All students are required to contact their mentor twice a week which is submitted as their weekly attendance. This is a requirement for your student to remain a Parchment School District student.

Contact any of the following:

Mr. Jung Moon Suh - jsuh@parchmentschools.org

Mr. Kevin White - kwhite@parchmentschools.org

Mr Craig Thornton - craig.thornton@parchmentschools.org

This two-way communication is a requirement of the State of Michigan Department of Education. The three HS mentors use student email and Edmentum messaging for a Wednesday and Friday contact.  Click reply when you see the message, and number your answers to the questions they ask.  It is that simple.  If you have not completed them yet, do that today for last Wednesday and Friday.  (Set an alarm on your phone or tablet to remind you to open your Edmentum/school email and complete the communication each time.)

2. We added the first three courses to let students get a jump start on their entire schedule and now we are adding the last two classes to make sure they have the full 8 weeks remaining to complete their entire 5 class schedule by the 11/24/20 end date. This 5-class schedule is no different than if they were in the brick and mortar school building where they would attend all classes each day. All 5 classes must be completed by November 24, 2020 in order to begin the second trimester in good standing.

3. PVA Teachers (Mrs. Duvall, Mrs. Romain) are provided to give extra course assistance to students.  Students should be working with them weekly to stay on progress with the expected course completion dates, since all 5 classes must be completed by November 24, 2020 to begin the second trimester in good standing.

4. The curriculum is available to students 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This added flexibility is designed for student mastery and allows each student to spend the time needed.  Note that students may follow a traditional school day schedule or work according to their personal preferences.  We realize that each student will spend different amounts of time on an assignment/tutorial/test which is perfectly acceptable. The flexibility in this curriculum allows students to move at their pace to allow mastery of the material.

5. Both Mentors and Teachers have shared their hours of availability to assist students. This may be different than your previous experience with education in that it may not line up with the traditional bell schedule.

6. My Virtual Academy is also offering Help Desk hours from 11 AM to 1 PM to assist students whenever their Mentor and/or Teacher is unavailable.

We know that this is a learning process for all involved, and that time is needed for this adjustment. If you would like to discuss your situation further, please contact your Mentor or Teacher so we can assist you with your concerns. We appreciate your cooperation and we look forward to making this a great school year!

Sincerely,

Craig Thornton
