The Parchment School District professional staff includes a school psychologist, school social worker, speech pathologist and a teacher consultant, all of whom are available to assess student needs and determine eligibility for special education programs and services. In addition, these staff members are available for consultation with teachers and parents as needed. The district also provides a community mental health liaison to provide links to community services.
Services are provided for students who are found eligible under Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Michigan Rules and Regulations. Once certified, students can receive services in the following disability areas:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Cognitively Impaired (CI)
- Early Childhood Developmentally Disabled (ECDD)
- Emotionally Impaired (EI)
- Hearing Impaired (HI)
- Learning Disabled (LD)
- Otherwise Health Impaired (OHI)
- Physically Impaired (PI)
- Speech and Language Impaired (SLI)
- Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
- Visually Impaired (VI)
Excellence in Special Education Award Nomination
The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) would like to recognize a school staff member for his/her outstanding work with special education students. Parents/guardians/family members of students with special needs may nominate ANY person who works with students (bus drivers, aides, teachers, secretaries, custodians, principals, administrators, psychologists, social workers, therapists, consultants, etc.). Please take a few minutes to complete this PDF form and return by March 8, 2019. The person selected will be recognized at his/her local school board meeting, the PAC meeting, and in his/her individual school.
Parent Advisory Committee
Parents have a defined role in the planning of county-wide special education services for their children. Each local board of education within the Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency nominates a member to serve on the Parent Advisory Committee(PAC).
The Committee acts in an advisory capacity to Kalamazoo RESA and is charged with cooperatively developing the county-wide plan for special education programs and services. We represent each impairment area, and we welcome input from other parents.
The committee meets on the third Tuesday of every month (except June, July, August and December) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 at the Kalamazoo RESA Service Center. For further information please contact Amy Hansen, Special Education Administrator at (269) 488-1124.
