May 2013
Spring is here-sunshine and warmth, finally! It is hard to believe but it is nearly time to honor our Class of 2013 graduates! Please help us in congratulating our Valedictorian for 2013, Noah Koch and our Salutatorian, Kelly Capone, as well as the rest of our graduates. The graduates will experience a traditionally outstanding ceremony at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, at Miller Auditorium on the campus of Western Michigan University. Please join us for this celebration if you are able!
The Parchment School District has had another successful year in educating and serving our 1,800+ students and their families. We are pleased, and humbled, to have served over 300 students this school year who have chosen the Parchment School District via Schools of Choice. It is an honor as a school district, to be chosen as the destination district by so many families. We take the obligation very seriously and do everything we can to make the students and families feel welcome and cared for. We appreciate our dedicated staff that work hard each day to make each student's educational experience a great one!
As summer approaches, the district is preparing to install camera and buzzer systems at all elementary building entrances as well as at Barclay Hills Education Center. This will create a controlled, single point of entry system during the school day. Safety is obviously a very high priority and as tragedies have taken place around the country, we are doing what we can to improve our security. The high school and middle school already have a controlled, single point of entry during the school day where all visitors enter through the main office. While we feel systems at the High School and Middle School are ideal, the rest of the buildings are not easily converted because of design issues. We understand that this will be somewhat inconvenient; we believe the safety of our students warrants this change.
Yours in education,
Matthew J. Miller,
Superintendent
