Parents are asked to call the Northwood office at 488-1300 whenever your child will be absent or late to school. It is important for us to know where all of our students are during the school hours. We do have a message machine, so feel free to call as early as needed.
The Northwood Elementary Handbook (PDF) includes a summary of basic information, FAQ's, and school policies. It is sent home with the packet at the beginning of the school year. Please spend some time reviewing the handbook with your child, so that you are familiar with our policies and procedures.
Picking Up Students
Student safety is a top priority for us at Northwood! If you wish to pick up your children after school, please sign your child out in the office and then wait in the main lobby. Children who are picked up after school will not be allowed to leave the building until an approved adult has signed them out. This will help eliminate confusion and crowded conditions in the hallways, and ensure that your child is released to a safe and approved person at the end of the day.
Students are dismissed at 3:25. All of the time that your child spends at school is crucial to his or her success and growth throughout the year. Therefore, we request that parents do not pick up their students before 3:25. If you have to pick up students for a scheduled appointment, be sure to stop by the office and we will call them down. In order to keep our children safe, we also ask that parents do not have their children walk across the parking lot by themselves. Thanks for your cooperation and support with this matter.
Northwood Notes, our school newsletter, will be coming home twice each month with students. It will include information about activities, special events, school policies, and other information you need to know about Northwood Elementary, so please be sure to look for this.
Northwood Elementary is fortunate to have a very active and outstanding Parent-Teacher Organization. The Parent-Teacher Organization is an important part of our school family, raising funding for many school events and activities, and supporting our school mission. The meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month from 6:00 to 7:00 PM in our library. Childcare is provided free of charge in the gym. Please watch for information about specific dates for PTO meetings, and contact our office if you would like more information, or to contact the PTO directly. We hope to see you there!
Northwood Behavior Plan
A positive and safe environment is crucial to the success of all of our students. Our teaching staff has designed a school-wide behavior plan for Northwood. Our plan incorporates positive praise and reinforcement, as well as clear and specific expectations. Please consult our handbook or contact our office for more information.
We are happy to welcome you to Northwood, and look forward to a successful year of learning, growth and fun!
