All Life Management courses are electives and will help fulfill the elective graduation requirement. 

Nutrition and Foods

Course Number:  #310

Length of Course:  1 Trimester – ½ Credit

Prerequisites:  None

Grade Level:  9 – 12

This course will explore the affects of food choices and nutrients on one’s health.  Students will study nutrition for a healthy lifestyle the first six (6) weeks and prepare recipes from the food guide pyramid the next six (6) weeks.

 

Child Development/Parenting II

Course Number:  #313

Length of Course:  1 Trimester – ½ Credit

Prerequisites:  Health

Grade Level:  10 – 12

This course will take an in-depth look at the growth and development (including physical, emotional, social, and cognitive) of children from birth through adolescence.  Other topics that will be discussed will include childcare, early childhood education, and careers involving working with children.  Students will design lessons for field trips in order that they gain experience working with grade school-aged children.

 

Child Development/Parenting I

Course Number:  #312

Length of Course:  1 Trimester – ½ Credit

Prerequisites:  Health

Grade Level:  10 –12

This course will introduce planned parenthood, including topics such as personal readiness, reproductive anatomy, contraception methods, STD prevention, teenage parenthood, planning a family, pregnancy, prenatal care, preparing for a baby’s arrival, and the birthing process.

Creative Foods

Course Number:  #314

Length of Course:  1 Trimester – ½ Credit

Prerequisites:  Nutrition

Grade Level:  10 – 12

 

This course is an advanced foods course that starts out with a two-week review of nutrition and units in breakfast, vegetarian meals, meats, and desserts.  Students will study the use of herbs and spices, event planning, restaurant evaluation, and careers with a nutrition background.
