Art

All Art courses are electives and will help fulfill the elective graduation requirement.

Fundamentals of Art

Course Number:  #301

Length of Course: 1 Trimester – ½ credit

Prerequisites: None

Grade Level: 9-12

Basic experiences are offered in a variety of materials and techniques.  Elements of design, drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture are among these.  This class is meant for the student who would like to learn art skills for their own personal enjoyment and the student who is interested in taking higher level art courses.

 

Sculpture

Course Number:  #303

Length Of Course: 1 Trimester – ½  Credit

Prerequisites: Fundamentals of Art or Drawing and Painting

Grade Level:  10 – 12

Higher-level experiences are offered, with a concentration of learning various 3-dimensional art forms, including sculpture, ceramics, and crafts.  The elements and principles of design learned in Fundamentals of Art are incorporated in all projects.  This course will allow students to develop abilities in 3-dimensional art technique and creativity, as well as give students the chance to think and design creatively.

 

Drawing and Painting

Course Number:  #302

Length Of Course: 1 Trimester – ½  Credit

Prerequisites:  None

Grade Level:  10 – 12

This course offers a more focused concentration in 2-dimensional art forms, including drawing, painting, and printmaking.  The elements and principles of design learned in Fundamentals of Art are incorporated in all projects.  This course will allow the individual who wishes to sincerely develop abilities in 2-dimensional art the opportunity to learn both technique and creative thinking skills.

Advanced Study in Art

(Portfolio Production)

Course Number: #304

Length Of Course: 1 Trimester – ½  Credit

Prerequisites:  Fundamentals of Art or Drawing and Painting or Sculpture

Grade Level:  11 – 12 (May be repeated)

This course is offered to students who are interested in pursuing art as a career or in furthering their visual arts studies in a higher educational setting.  It requires students to research several colleges, tech schools, or entry-level positions that require a visual portfolio, and then to assemble a portfolio of artwork to present upon application.
